what is Starbit
Starbit ($sxyz) is what is known as an ERC20 token (part of Ethereum). It is the future payment method of choice for our marketplace.
As of now, our partner vendors still accept multiple payment methods, most notably cash and credit/debit cards. In 2027, vendors on Mercado will begin accepting Starbit as payment.

Starbit is fresh in the mindset of the average consumer and has a fixed supply of 100,000,000 tokens, with a base price of $1 USD per token. It’s inflation-proof and meant to be spent, not hoarded.
Because of COVID stimulus checks being issued to most Americans, between 2020-2022, the U.S. Federal government printed more money than at any other time in history. The supply of U.S. dollars increased more than 40%, contributing to massive inflation of the dollar. Whatever money in USD you had saved was devalued because the federal government created extra dollars from nothing.
Having a store of value other than the U.S. dollar is a way to protect yourself from such inflationary events in the future. When the government prints money, as it will continue to do so in the coming years, your money becomes worth less and less. Think about the buying power of a dollar 100 years ago. In 1926, just before the Great Depression, the average purchase price of a new home property in the United States was between $5,000 - $7,000 USD. Today, the national average is between $400,000 - $500,000 USD, with homes in Los Angeles averaging between $900,000 - $1,000,000.
Instead of losing value, imagine if you had a form of money that actually increased in value with time, not the other way around. 100 years ago, the total supply of USD was estimated at under $50 billion. Today, since the expansion of the money supply following the COVID pandemic years, the supply of USD is over $23 trillion.

U.S. Congress and the Federal Reserve (the U.S. Central Bank) determine how much money to print and circulate in the economy. It’s a complicated process but the part that is relevant to the average American and global citizens is that they can, in fact, print money out of thin air and every time they do, they devalue all of the money supply.
-
Very simply put, it is “legal tender” to settle debts. What kind of debts - all kinds of debts. If you pull out a $1 dollar bill or any multiple thereof, you will see that each paper bill states “Federal Reserve Note” at the top. Ok, maybe it’s not so simple.
Let’s break down what money is for grandma and grandpa. 100 years ago, grandpa had a job, whatever it was; he performed labor that was worth a specified value to someone or some company. Maybe the easiest way to think of money is the value of work, but transferred into currency that is fungible. Fungible, for example, means that a USD $100 dollar bill can be traded for another USD $100 dollar bill and that they provide the same value. The $100 dollar bill is said to be fungible, then.
So, provided that we are talking about a fungible money supply, money can be thought of as the energy you put into work. Here is the problem with governments printing money endlessly though:
If you spent half of your life saving $50,000 prior to the COVID pandemic, for example, that money represented hundreds, if not thousands of hours of your labor accumulated over decades, which the federal government just drastically devalued when they increased the money supply during the early 2020’s. By expanding the total money supply, the U.S. government reduced the value of your hard-earned dollars. This isn’t just a problem for Americans, but for global citizens everywhere who use the U.S. dollar in their daily lives.
In order to prevent the loss of currency value, it makes sense for a community to adopt a form of payment that will not lose value beyond the base U.S. dollar. To counteract the dollar’s regular inflation rates, the best store of value is a token that has as its base value one U.S. dollar, with a fixed maximum supply.
Introducing Starbit, a shopping token, with the minimum value set at $1 and a total supply of 100,000,000 ($SXYZ).

Bitcoin and other popular cryptocurrencies have already been culturally adopted as investment tools, rather than focusing on shopping as the use case. Psychologically, the entire cryptocurrency market lives in the minds of most users as an investment vehicle. This investor mentality inhibits the use of cryptocurrency for spending on goods or services. Once this happened, Satoshi Nakamoto’s original vision for cryptocurrency became muddled at best. The bottleneck for crypto adoption worldwide, specifically for shopping, is the difficulty of transfer from person to person, person to organization, etc. It is currently tedious to transfer most cryptocurrency. However, the most important reason for adopting Starbit is to counteract inflation of the U.S. dollar. Because Starbit’s total supply cannot increase beyond 100,000,000 SXYZ, and each Starbit is at minimum, worth $1 USD, its value per token will only increase over time, starting from launch date.
The other reason not to use Bitcoin is because it’s already overpriced and with nothing to back its value, like gold or treasury bonds, Bitcoin’s value is HIGHLY volatile. It can and HAS lost over half its value in a matter of weeks.
Starbit has an agreed-upon base value of $1 USD, from which it can only increase, but it’s best not to see it as an investment and more as the ultimate payment tool that works across borders and eventually across planets.
Gift card is redeemable for Starbitcoins in November. Starbit is an official ERC20 token living on the Ethereum blockchain since 2025. Starting value of Starbit shall be no less than $1 USD per token. NOT a stablecoin. Fully refundable. No questions asked.
